Don’t hate me but….I just want jeans and a nice top. I’m an ageing millennial. Help!

If I had a £1 for every time someone asked me for ‘jeans and a nice top’ in their initial styling appointment, I would be sunning myself back in Mallorca (on a privately owned mountainous property) right now. Clearly, it’s a hangover from our early 2000s university days where denim and a ‘nice’ top was the outfit of choice. Gen-Z have now appropriated the formula for their Y2K style and thus, it is back in our collective mindset. The good news? I’ve done the hard work and found the new investment ‘nice’ top that will move you away from Y2K style and instead, plant you firmly into the stylish territory of mid 2020s. The bonus? If you were a fan of Topshop Boutique back in the day, you’ll absolutely adore this piece. TOVE is a brand I champion again and again for its contemporary and elevated feminine pieces. Sustainability is at the centre of the brands’ philosophy with careful considerations at each point of manufacture. After all, the brand was founded by two ex-Topshop veterans who saw a crucial gap in the market for well-designed clothing that truly compliments every dimension of a woman’s lifestyle.

A hardworking piece that could be styled year round is the Giulianna top that features an asymmetric drape detail and a soft cowled neckline. This fitted piece is a relaxed elegant option for day through to evening and pairs well with denim as it does more fluid trousers. I particularly love the contoured double dart detailing at the back which shows off its clever fit. This is the type of piece I would travel with in both black and white, making getting dressed a breeze. I would style with the sustainably produced Cary high-rise from Reformation (giving you that fitted midsection but with a relaxed, longer leg) and pair with ivory St Agni wedges echoing the architectural fit. I also love the Chloé Nama for a sportier feel with a large tote running around town too. Easy, effortless styling and an investment top worth the price. The Giulianna is also currently half price on sale at Net-a-porter……*the sound of multiple tabs popping open*

I realise the sales are a good time to invest in a classic black belt but what should I be looking for and why are they so skinny and/or wide, or just EXTRA this season?
