A friend said to me recently ‘you’re so good at hunting down pieces you know you want - often I go on these second-hand platforms and have no idea what I’m looking for.’ Maybe it’s having worked in the luxury retail industry - being aware of the insane quadruple mark-ups that have become worryingly normalised - but I have always noted and sourced only pieces that I know I’ll use longterm. My mindset has always been that having less is very much more and I will patiently wait until sale season to purchase an expensive piece I want (unless it’s small batch! A very good reason to produce less!)
On that note, I am relived that resale is becoming more mainstream behaviour. It’s truly of second nature to the Scandinavians who think nothing of spending generously on resale value items. One of my favourite places (that used to have a store in my old neighbourhood of Østebro) is iblamelulu, where you can pick up second-hand Prada, Khaite, The Row, Marni etc. Their own brand is of sumptuous quality too - I live in their Alexis knits every winter….
I digress. Would you like to know how I managed to save £1600 on my last five purchases via resale sites?
